My work comes from understanding how the body functions. The body is a wondrous construction full if it’s own wisdom and my philosophy is to simply listen to it. Movement based on the body’s natural workings reveals this wisdom. Doing movement that is organic, which reflects the body’s construction, reveals to us the nature of this wonderful thing which we inhabit for our lives.

I incorporate into my teaching, the inescapable elements that we are subject to; gravity, momentum, weight and breath. Dance, therefore, is the study of everything that we are, and how we interact with the world around us.

Using this as a starting point and as a basis from which self expression can be realised, I try to connect movement with matters of the heart and mind. Human beings are creatures of thought, feeling and imagination and our humanity is reflected in how we move and stand and even in our very breath. Dance requires that we consider ideas that are unusual, curious and provocative, and consider those ideas without judgement. Therefor along with a body that, through training, is strong and supple and resilient, dance requires humour, empathy and imagination. This is what I strive to cultivate…
